I haven’t written a journal in a while, so I’m going to describe for you “The Attack”.

I have only told two people of “The Attack”, mostly because I’m afraid people will think I’m crazy if I confide in them, and also because I do not understand it myself.

But hey...this is the internet! I’m not afraid to tell any of you what happened because if you think I’m crazy...it’s okay! I’ll never meet you anyway! :D

haha...yeah this is another cynical journal. Sorry.

So...”The Attack”. It has happened to me a grand total of three times.

It starts like this:

I’m lying in bed.

A normal type of thing to do.

The first two times I had “The Attack”, it was just after I woke up. Both times I was having rather exciting dreams. One about a concert, the other about seeing my favourite hockey team in the play offs (it’s the Leafs, so yeah that would be exciting since it will never happen in real life :P).

As soon as I wake up, however, I feel these terribly strong rushes of blood to my head. And my heart beat is extraordinarily loud.

It lasts for maybe about 20 seconds ...probably less though.

At first I thought it was the excitement of the dreams that had caused it, but now I know otherwise.

The first two times that I had the attack were probably about 6 months ago.

However, on Thursday I was lying in bed listening to The MOD Club Radio (as per usual). Now the MOD Club airs from 11pm-2pm so it was getting late and I was slowly becoming more and more sleepy. I remember starting to drift off to sleep, but then I felt a strange tingling sensation in my neck. So I rolled over...I thought perhaps the position I was sleeping in was causing the weird feelings.

But as soon as I flipped over and closed my eyes I felt “The Attack!”

Suddenly I felt loads of blood rushing to my head and my heart beat was quite usual.

I was immediately confused...no dream was causing it this time. I had thought it had been the excitement of my dreams that cause my heart rate to increase and pump so much blood...but I had done nothing exciting this time! I had simply rolled over!

The bizarre blood flow lasted for about 10 seconds and then stopped. I opened my eyes and the sensation was gone entirely.

But when I closed them it began again.

Another 10 seconds.

I was a little confused as to what was causing “The Attack” but because it lasted for such a short period of time, I was not worried. And besides...it felt kind of...cool.

It didn’t hurt...it just makes you feel excited. So it wasn’t a bad feeling..just a strange one.

I figured it wasn’t going to happen again.

I turned up my MOD Club and prepared to fall asleep listening to it.

But then...another “Attack”.

By this time I was a bit worried. I could understand one or two random palpitations of the heart. But three? How long was this going to go on for? All night?!?

I rolled over again, agitated.

And then things got bad.

Suddenly I felt the violent rush of blood to my head begin again. But it was much stronger than another time I had experienced it. And it wasn’t disappearing after 10 seconds...it simply became stronger and stronger...my head began to hurt because so much blood was rushing to it!

And my heart beat...it was louder than any heart beat ever should be. Remember...I was listening to the MOD Club Radio on my headphones. And it was turned up loud. But by this time, I couldn’t even hear it...I could hear my heart beat as if it were in my head, a constant booming drum. And it was so ridiculously loud. I could hear no other sound...

I panicked.

What the hell was going on?! My eyes flew open, but the attack did not cease. It was pitch black in my room. My head was spinning and all my blood was rushing to it; the boom of my heart pounding my ear drums...

“I must be having a heart attack!” I thought in horror.

I have no idea what a heart attack is like, so I simply assumed that was what was happening.

I needed help, so I tried to call out.

But my voice was not making any sounds...or perhaps I could not hear it over the noise of my heart and the blood rushing (it has a vibrant rushing sound to it).

Now I was really panicked.

I attempted to move thinking that maybe if my sister was awake (she shares a room with me) she would see my distress and call for help.

But I couldn’t move.

“Oh God,” I thought, “If I am having a heart attack and I end up passing out, no one will even realise...I’m in bed and they’ll just think I’m sleeping!”

I tried to move again.

This time I felt my left foot shake a bit.

Then suddenly my neck stopped tingling. I was able to lift it off my pillow. The blood rush began to slow down a bit.

I was breathing hard as I slowly began to raise myself from the bed.

By the time I was sitting up, “The Attack” had slowly disappeared.

No more blood rushing to the head.

No more crazy heart beat.

My breathing was returning to normal.

“What’s going on?” my sister mumbled, getting up from her bed.

“Nothing!” I squeaked, trying to sound as though I were perfectly fine. She is only six years old and I did not want to worry her.

But I was worried. I didn’t want to go to sleep now, or even lie down.

What if “The Attack” came back?

If it got any worse I would probably pass out or something. I couldn’t believe I’d even survived the last one...it had been so intense!

What in the world was wrong with me?!

Well it didn’t happen again, much to my relief.

But I still don’t know what happened.

I have two theories.

The first one is believable: heart attack.

The second one is not: vampire attack.

If you’ve ever read Anne Rice before, her vampire attacks are similar to what happened to me. The tingly sensation I felt in my next...obviously from being bitten. The loud heart beat...the sound of my heart beat and the vampire’s connecting. The blood rush...from the suction of the vampire’s bite. My temporary inability to move ...the paralytic effect of the vampire bite.

It would make sense...if it wasn’t for the fact that vampires don’t exist (or do they?!?).

So I’m going with theory one.

Some weird type of heart problem, I guess.

I’m scared it’ll happen again =x

But hopefully if it does happen again, it’ll only be a little 10 second attack...unlike that last minute long one...the others were simply interesting. But that one...that one was scary.

Anyway.

I’m not gonna sleep much tonight regardless. I had my first redbull today...look out world.

High-Stakes Dating? Or Low-Self Rating

I write this in response to Allen Salkin’s news article “High-Stakes Dating”, an article which declares that vegetarianism is both disadvantageous and unrespectable, especially when it comes to dating. As a vegetarian myself, I was simply appalled. High-Stakes Dating? Was this some kind of ill-conceived joke? According to the article, one of the most attractive qualities men find in women is when a woman orders a steak or other types of meat on the first date. Apparently, “by ordering a burger or steak instead of salad, women are advertising to men they’re not wimpy.” Funny. I was not aware that the food one consumes dictates one’s level of “wimpyness”.

The article further enforces this idea by trumpeting the example of Martha Flach, a former vegetarian. Flach once supported vegetarianism as a teen, but when she started dating, she renounced her vegan habits. In order to impress men, Flach began to order steak during restaurant dates. After all, who doesn’t want a boyfriend who loves you for your stomach? I think Martha Flach is possibly one of the worst role models for teen girls. In today’s society, we are trying to make it easier for the ever self-conscious teenage girl to feel comfortable with herself. Yet, in this article, Allen Salkin is promoting the example of a spineless woman who has altered her entire lifestyle simply to make herself “attractive” to the opposite sex. Perhaps Catholic schools should cease to advocate abstinence too. After all, that should attract mates too, right? Young people, and especially teen girls, tend to be insecure about themselves. “High-Stakes Dating” is sending a misinformed message to them, forcing them to believe that they should sculpt their personalities around what others think, not about what they feel is right and true to themselves. Vegetarians should be applauded for their lifestyle, not persuaded against it.

Vegetarian and Veganism are two lifestyles that are enormously underrated. Not only young women, but also all people who choose to adopt a meat-free lifestyle, should be encouraged for their efforts rather than shunned. A Vegetarian/Vegan lifestyle is beneficial in a plethora of ways. Vegetarians and Vegans prove to be much healthier than people who choose to consume meat. Meat is laden with fat and cholesterol and can begin to lay down the foundations of heart disease and several other maladies from as early as childhood. Dr. Dean Ornish conducted a Vegan study in which he discovered that the American Heart Association’s recommended diet caused an increase of 28% in the clotting of arteries, while Ornish’s Vegan diet created an 8% improvement of arteries. Also, only 2% of pure Vegetarians are obese – that’s merely one ninth the figure of obese meat consumers. Thousands of deaths result from more than 50 million cases of meat-related disease and illness, which occur every year in America. It just makes sense to eliminate meat from one’s diet – it’s the healthy thing to do. Vegetarians and Vegans are able to reject a human being’s momentary desire for the taste of animal flesh because they realize that human desires are not as important as an animal’s right to not be tortured and violently killed. To me, it seems that being Vegetarian/Vegan would therefore be an attractive quality in a person. Vegetarians are healthy, fit, and caring individuals. What’s not to like about that?

Another fact that Allen Salkin clearly overlooked while writing “High-Stakes Dating” is the fact that Vegetarian and Veganism do so much to benefit not only oneself, but also the whole wide world. Perhaps Mr. Salkin was not aware that 80% of agricultural land in America is exploited to raise animals which will be later slaughtered and eaten. 70% of the grains grown in our world are used to feed and plump these animals, and over 4000 gallons of water is used for them as well. Now imagine if these animals weren’t massed produced for human consumption. That would mean that fruit and vegetables and the extra grain and water could be plentiful enough to support many of the starving people in this world. A Vegetarian diet can cause a catalyzing reaction toward the betterment of our world. So now Vegetarians are saving the planet! If that’s not to be admired, I don’t know what is. Personally, I believe that anyone who dedicates their lifestyle to enhancing our deteriorating world is no wimp. They’re a hero.

So really, what is it about eating meat that’s so attractive? Vegetarian or Veganism show that one is confident and strong enough to support their own morals and ethics. It also indicates that one is healthy and doing their part to make the world a better place. It seems odd that anyone would want to discourage these people from continuing their Vegetarian or Vegan lifestyles. So, does eating meat really result in “High-Stakes Dating”, or just low self confidence - a low self-rating?

Whooooaa! wayyy back – play back alert! I know. I know. It’s rather unlike me to do so, but I’ve chosen an old song. But it’s just a happy song! I remember dancing to it with my cousin Juliana when I was little at someone’s 40^th bday party. We were in a hall and my dad’s band was playing it. Juliana and I had our prettiest formal dresses on and we were dancing in a real fancy hall...we thought it was heaven. Good memories! lol

It also reminds me of Louis de Pointe du Lac, for obvious reasons, and thinking of him always makes me happy too ^_^

Blaqk Audio: An Experience Through Words

The lights flashed. Blue this time. Last time they had flashed so erratically, they had been a light aquamarine. The opening DJ’s set had droned on for at least an hour in the dim lights as we waited restlessly for the main attraction, electro duo Blaqk Audio, to hit the stage. It was nearing nine o’clock now, and every now and then, coloured lights would explode into the darkness of the MOD Club. It was a simple means of building the dense anticipation. Suddenly, several bright lights burst into life at once. The MOD Club was thrown into a state of absolute elation and intensity. My ears were drowned in deafening cheers of applause – they were here. “That’s them!” I screamed excitedly to my friend Amanda, “Blaqk Audio’s here!” Sure enough, two figures appeared on stage amid the swirling blue and white lights. “Hello Toronto! We are Blaqk Audio!” Davey Havok declared, as Jade Puget began to play the first notes of the band’s opening set. The crowd launched itself into a vehement frenzy. I had somehow lost my ability to stand still. I had become a buoy, bobbing up and down in an ocean of cheers and screams of adoration. Bouncing on the balls of my feet with pure adrenaline, I watched adoringly as my favourite musicians brought the stage, the lights and the club-goers to life. Amanda and I were five feet from the stage, bodies packed around us like clothing stuffed in a tight closet. Faces plastered with Gothic make-up and ironed piercing all soon became infected with the same contagious smile of rapturous euphoria. The music’s pace quickened; it was running now, and the crowd chased after it hungrily. We danced and jumped, screamed and shouted, and fell under the music’s ever growing spell. The two suited figures on stage danced along too, and soon Davey Havok’s passionate vocals filled our ears, as his engaging stage presence took hold over any lost fragments of attention that weren’t directed toward him already. I was dizzy with happiness; the idea of being so close to Havok and Puget, such talented songwriters, was intoxicating. With each song, the room seemed to rise in temperature, burning in the crowd’s undying passion. Davey Havok’s dramatics became more and more vivacious, and Jade Puget’s music became a catalyst for the crowd’s energy. The fans, unable to stop swaying and bobbing to the beat of the electro, became perfumed with the odour of dance; sweaty, yet alive with integrity. Deep, emotional lyrics stirred our souls, and electronic bursts of sound tangoed with our feet. I cheered until my tongue became like sandpaper against my mouth. The lightning flash of cameras blurred my vision as Havok addressed the crowd one last time before the show would end. No one wanted them to leave. Havok’s deep and alluring eyes glanced over the crowd, deluding each person in a way that only he could – we all felt as though he was looking straight into each and everyone’s pair of eyes. The ghost of a smile flickered across his lips and he nodded to Puget, who grinned and plucked out the first notes of the last song. Stiff Kittens began to ignite as the crowd roared its approval. My heart pumping with excitement, I joined in their dance once more.

Clint Catalyst: A Portrait Drawn By Words

His stance says it all. The elegance and glamour of a model is summarized within his reach. He’s eccentric. Intriguing. And incredibly well dressed. His name is Clint Catalyst, and he certainly proves to be a catalyst for people’s reactions. It takes nothing for his quick, intelligent eyes to take hold of any photographer or fashion label’s interests. Even if you’ve never heard of him, you’d know at a glance that he is the essence of ‘scene fashion’. Clint doesn’t follow trends, he creates them. He has his own sensational sense of style. Flicking through his modeling portfolio, one would immediately identify this fact. Pictures of Clint dressed as a mime, with paper white skin and crimson, cut-red lips would stand out at once. His eyes portray a Machiavellian sense of behaviour that compliments his twisted, vexatious smile. His face is so pale and white that it almost seems as if it would be powdery to the touch. However, his eyes are painted in a rich black kohl, creating an aura of mystery. His fine, arched eyebrows are raised high above his white lids, disappearing beneath his short brown hair, which is crowned with a beret. Another photo that maintains a striking appearance is a portrait piece of Clint, one in which he is painted vividly across the camera’s screen. His eyes are screaming with electric blue hunger; they crave attention and almost always receive it. His sharp blue suit serves as a highlighter, further pushing Clint’s eyes into the spotlight. His dark brown hair and pallid skin contrast in a delightful manner. His pink lips match the pink tie clinging around his heck, and the elicit green backdrop delivers Clint’s image in a tone soaked in freshness. He looks so crisp and clear in the photograph, one can almost smell the freshly cut grass of summer while staring at him. Clint’s mouth curves upward, again seeking to portray his witty cleverness. His eccentric looks and ability to create new, innovative point of views in modeling have made him one of the most credible names in fashion. With his talent for ‘catalyzing’ energy and glamour through photographs, Clint Catalyst has certainly left an impression on the world of fashion and photography.

Dear Sandy Claws,

I do not want to kidnap you, despite what you may think, judging from all the singing I’ve been doing lately .

It’s almost Davey’s birthday.....

....weeeeeeeeee!

Not sure why I’m excited, but then again, I always get slightly over-excited on any A.F.I. member’s birthday.

And plus me and my friends are spending two days livin’ it up on a retreat together, on November 20^th...

Sweet!

Actually, I went to Toronto last November 20^th with my mates to go to a film festival (in French :D) and then spend the rest of the night eating crepes in a really cute Burlington restaurant... yummmmmm!

Not vegan, but yum.

So I might not be invited to Davey Havok’s birthday party, but I can always depend on going on a trip of some kind that day anyway :D

I’m making him a birthday cake though. It’s tradition. I always make on an AFI birthday.

Davey’s cake last year was a masterpiece, if I do say so myself. I’m talking bright pink icing. With vanilla and chocolate swirls. It was hella good, no doubt! ;]

So I won’t be online during Monday and Tuesday...and probably not much of today either (another group of friends and I are making a movie together and I expect we’ll need all day Friday and Sunday to finish it). See ya later...
